SpaceX Starship Lands in the Gulf of Mexico
Thursday, Apr. 20, SpaceX’s massive Starship rocket took off. This is the biggest and most successful spaceship to take off. Unfortunately, the spacecraft and the booster failed to separate as the starship tumbled in the sky before breaking apart and landing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Though the Starship ended with an explosion, this still met several of the company’s objectives for the spacecraft initiative. Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO spoke out on the matter saying, “Success is not what should be expected. That would be insane.”
SpaceX will need to obtain a new launching license from the FAA to make another attempt with their Starship, but SpaceX doesn’t anticipate the process to be as difficult compared to this past Thursday.
For Starship, this is only the beginning as they plan hopes of one day making it to Mars. Before that happens, the Starship needs to complete several technological questions and SpaceX must prove they can make it to the moon. While that process is complex within itself, SpaceX also needs to at least make the orbit before reaching the moon. Essentially, there are many more tests that must be had in order to prove the spaceship is capable of handling not just the orbital speeds and a partial lap of the planet to deem itself successful and potentially go to the moon and then Mars.
Nevertheless, this massive rocket booster was successful to take off as it roared off to life. In the future, we can undoubtedly anticipate more tests of the Starship and what potential it can accomplish.
